South Asia

Population: Around 1.45 billion, this area includes some of the most populous countries in the world today.

Main religions:

Islam, Hinduism and Biddhism are the major religions in this region. Hinduism is the predominant religion in India and Nepal, with around 830 million Hindus in both countries.  Islam is the main religion in Pakistan and Bangladesh with roughly 300 million Muslims in both countries.  There are significant Christian minorities in all these countries, nevertheless, persecution is on the rise in many of these countries and political unrest in this region is normally attributed to ethnic conflicts.
