Interserve has a desire to see small teams going into countries to support partners by intercessory prayer. We have a commitment to prayer and recognise the power of intercession. We also have a commitment to the member care of our partners and desire to see God at work in their situations in a powerful way. We recognise that some are called to intercede for missionaries and wish to facilitate this by encouraging and helping to organise these teams.

Who can be part of these prayer teams?

Those who are involved in this initiative should be either experienced in intercessory prayer (or seeking to grow in the area) or those who have a clear call from the Lord to pray for missionaries. They need to be willing to take guidance from partners who are experienced in matters of culture.

Which countries?

The countries visited will be determined by requests from the field and the availability of a team to go.

How long?

Between 4 – 7 days is the suggested length of stay. It can be longer but any shorter makes it difficult to really get into the situation

The Program

- A team of 2-5 people

  1. -A mature team leader – ideally who has some experience either with the culture or working in a cross cultural setting.

  2. -Orientation to Interserve, to the country in general and to the nature of  partners’ situations and involvement. An understanding of culture, dress, food and the standard of living is necessary before the teams go to ensure that all have realistic expectations.

  3. -The Country Leadership Teams in the various countries shall approve these visits. Our partners will be involved in hospitality & sharing their lives with the team which will prove important for prayer in providing a general understanding of the partners and their circumstances.

  4. -The teams will be accountable to the country leader or a designated person.

Finances

Prayer Ministry Teams are no different from existing long and short term partners. As Interserve have no financial resources to cover the costs of these prayer teams, individuals are expected to raise their own support from family members, Churches and friends. This will be needed to cover travel, insurance, food and accommodation in some instances.

Practicalities

- Medical coverage – it is the responsibility of the individual to get their own coverage

- Vaccinations – Advice to be sought from your own GP

  1. -Accommodation – the country team may provide accommodation but this will depend on the size

  of the prayer team

  1. -Meals – some meals will be taken with partners but the team should budget for some meals out too

- Any plans for a personal holiday around this trip should be made independently.

‘‘The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.’’
