This edition of our quarterly magazine “Go” highlights some of the issues involved in the changing paradigm of mission. The articles are written to help people at every stage of missionary involvement, from new recruits through to leaders, and also to the faithful supporters who went before and are now involved in prayer support. Lets read and discover how mission is changing and how we ourselves might be challenged to modify our practices to serve our Lord better.

Our quarterly magazine “Go” is the best way to keep in touch with the latest news from Interserve’s work around the world, and is available free to everyone who would like to receive it. Each issue contains challenging and thought-provoking articles relating to cross-cultural mission and is designed to encourage people to play their part in bringing Christ’s love to the people of Asia, the Arab World and the UK.
In our April edition of Insight we hear from Adrian B about the Business as Mission (BAM) that he is involved in in Nepal. We get up close and personal with Richard, the Chairman of our Personnel Committee and we report on all the latest Interserve Ireland News.

Get Prepared! for short-term mission overseas

Are you involved in sending people on short-term mission overseas? Are you, or is a team from your congregation, planning to be involved in mission somewhere overseas in the coming months? If so, then you should consider attending one or more of the following training events.
Presbyterian Mission Overseas provides support and training for church and team leaders, as well as individuals and members of teams, in preparation for direct engagement in (or sending others to engage in) short-term mission overseas.
In the coming months, there will be three special training events (see below) to further help you or members of your church to be more prepared for short- term mission overseas.
Prepared to Send?
Saturday, 3rd March 2012 9.00 am ─ 5.00 pm Hillhall Presbyterian Church Halls, Lisburn
This training day is especially for overseas team leaders, church leaders and mission agency staff who have responsibility as 'senders' to ensure that the teams or individuals they are sending overseas are well prepared; and supported before, during and after their overseas mission experience.
Topics that will be explored include:
• Why bother with preparation and training for short-term mission?
• How to prepare for different cultures, health and emergency situations?
• How to disciple and encourage spiritual growth and well-being of the team/individual?
Cost: £10 per person. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but participants should bring their own packed lunch

Prepared to Go?
Saturday, 31st March 2012 9.15 am ─ 4.15 pm Assembly Buildings (Church House), Belfast
The programme for this newly named 'Prepared to Go?' training day, which was previously known as 'Overseas Teams Training' (OTT), has been altered and expanded.
It is now not only for teams but also for any individuals, who are planning to engage in short-term mission overseas! Even if you have attended OTT in the past, you should consider coming to this renamed event, as it offers a number of 'new' areas of training that may be of interest to you.
Seminars covering Child Protection in a Cross-cultural Context, Health overseas, Intercultural Behaviour, Health and Safety in Practical Work Overseas and Personal Security, will be available as in the past. But in addition to these, there will be seminars covering:
• Motivations and Expectations in short term mission.
• Spiritual Growth and Well Being during short term mission
• Team Dynamics
• Fundraising
• Sharing your experiences when you return
• After it’s all over, what next? Short term experience - Long term impact?
Participants will be able to choose to attend 5 seminars out of a total of 12 options.
For teams coming as a group, it is recommended that all seminars of interest to the team be attended by at least one team member (or more than one, if possible), who can share the 'content' of the particular seminar with the rest of the team at a later stage.
Details of seminar choices are available on request from the Mission Overseas Office, Assembly Buildings.
Cost: £5 per person. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but participants should bring their own packed lunch.

Prepared to Unpack the Experience?
Saturday, 12th May 2012 9.00 am ─ 5.00 pm Lowe Memorial Presbyterian Church Hall, Finaghy
This one-day, practical and interactive workshop, with time for questions and discussion, aims to teach participants how to provide effective debriefing to those returning from short-term mission assignments overseas.
Those who should consider attending are church and overseas team leaders or mission agency staff who have a particular responsibility for caring for individuals and teams after they have returned from their short term mission experience.
This training will be facilitated by Dr Debbie Hawker, a consultant clinical psychologist who works with missionaries and aid workers.
 Cost: £10 per person. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided but participants should bring their own packed lunch.
These training days are being organised and run by Presbyterian Mission Overseas in association with the Mission Agencies Partnership(MAP), and are open to members from any denomination or mission agency that is engaged in short-term mission overseas.

The current issue of GO, entitled "Building the Church", looks at the way in which Theological Education by Extension is helping to build the church in many parts of the world. This issue has been compiled by Christians working in TEE all over the world and their insight shines through in articles such as In the mountains of Central Asia", a look at how TEE assists Christians in Central Asia, and articles about TEE projects in other parts of the world. This is a fascinating insight into a way in which the church is growing often in difficult and challenging conditions.
