MEDICAL ELECTIVE Pakistan Electives are available in 2 hospitals for students to carry out work in obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatrics. Both hospitals offer excellent electives! Bangladesh  LAMB Hospital - Up to 4 electives at a time, it is necessary to apply 6 months in advance. This placement is in a rural spot but you will receive fantastic support & exposure at LAMB. - www.lambproject.org ICDDRB, Dhaka - this is an urban placement,where you will receive good guidance and support. Central Asia Medical Electives are available in a number of countries in various hospitals. One opportunity would be to do your placement in a medical clinic with a physical therapy based program for children with cerebral palsy. It provides medical consultation, individualised physiotherapy, parental support group and more. This program has proven to be a valuable contributor to the needs of the community. A student placed at this medical clinic would work in a local hospital setting under the supervision of an experienced expatriate Doctor alongside local Doctors. Another opportunity available would be to work in a family practice ambulatory care clinic, established by expatriate and national Doctors or in a well established community development organisation involved in a wide variety of educational and health related projects. Here you would join a well-established team of expatriate family Doctors who are working with local trainers and healthcare leaders, responsible for delivering continuing medical education (CME) and retraining medical providers in this country. The Gulf If you are interested in doing your medical elective in the Gulf we may be able to offer opportunities in Jordan, Dubai, Bahrain or the Emirates. A number of the teaching hospitals and some Christian hospitals are open to the possibility of hosting Medical students doing electives. While we can refer you to the hospitals, candidates will have to make direct contact with their preferred hospital to arrange their elective. Interserve will provide advice, orientation, arrival support and ongoing support during your time on placement. Candidates should be fully funded as the hospitals are unlikely to be able to provide any payment. India CMC Hospital, Vellore - Candidates for the CMC Hospital in Vellore must apply 6 months in advance. Oddanchatram Seven Day Adventist, Pune EHA Hospital, Raxaul EHA Hospital, Landour EHA Hospital, Herbertpur - http://hch-eha.com/ EHA Hospital, Utraula EHA Hospital, Lalitpur EHA Hospital, Chinchpada - most EHA hospitals are rural placements and can be isolated, nonetheless, they offer a great experience! - www.eha-health.org Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Washim - http://www.southasiafield.org/compassionate/rmh.html GEMS Hospital, Bihar Padmashree Dr.D.Y.Patil Hospital & Research Centre, Navi Mumbai - this is a secure hospital and is very well equipped. One of the Senior Doctors from EHA recently moved here and maintains that it is a good place for medical electives. For those who want an urban placement this is it! However, please do note that this is a secular hospital and you will have many opportunities to interact with people of other faiths. Green Pastures (INF hospital) - this hospital can only take 1 medical student at a time and are limited to hosting 3 students per year.  Patan Hospital (independent hospital) this hospital can take 3 medical students at a time, throughout the year. - www.patanhospital.org.np All of these hospitals are tried and tested places for electives! Thailand Kwai River Christian Hospital (KRCH) - this is an exciting place for an elective. The Medical Director is an experienced long-term worker who would encourage electives, however, they can only host 1 student at any one time so early applications are recommended!  Vietnam Opportunities are available to work in hospitals in Vietnam. The medical schools can host the medical elective course for international students both in clinical and community settings. They welcome all students who want to spend time working in practice in a multicultural environment. Applicants need to apply at least 2 months in advance by sending a CV, a copy of your passport and an introduction or recommendation letter from your University or tutor.
