Europe
Population: around 730 million.
Main religions:
Although Europe is traditionally recognised as a Christian continent, this is changing rapidly. Large parts of Europe are either officially or effectively atheist, numbers of active, church-going Christians are shrinking in many countries, and the arrival of large numbers of immigrants from Hindu, Muslim and Sikh countries have altered the religious make-up of the continent greatly. Despite these changes, Christianity is still the largest religion by far in Europe. Between 2% and 5% of Europeans are Muslim; Smaller numbers are Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist. Notably, Buddhism is one of the fastest growing religions in many Western countries.
